How you win

Racing is worth 250 points out of 1,000.

The rest is won in front of the judges, mostly with three documents: the portfolios.

Design & Engineering

Car design, simulation, testing and manufacturing.

Project Management

Risk, resources, roles and communication.

Enterprise

Marketing, sponsors, community, sustainability and brand.

The official event

Five tests, one score.

  • ScrutineeringDimensions, mass and safety: the judges check that the car meets every rule.
  • PortfoliosThree documents, Design & Engineering, Project Management and Enterprise, plus the engineering drawings.
  • Pit displayThe team's stand: our main touch point with judges and visitors. It is part of the Nationals and the World Finals, not the Regionals.
  • PresentationsThe team presents each portfolio to the judges: three presentations per event, one per document.
  • RacingReaction time plus car time. The best teams reach the knockout, the elimination tournament.

The launch

20 metres in just over a second.

When the lights go out, the driver presses the button: a firing pin punctures the CO₂ cartridge and the car launches along a guide wire. Reaction time counts too.
